Military Biography:
Max Roebuck participated in six patrols in the North Atlantic and other classified locations as part of the Cold War Nuclear Deterrent, serving as a nuclear reactor operator on the USS Lafayette (SSBN-616, a Lafayette-class nuclear ballistic missile submarine) and the USS Sam Rayburn (SSBN-635, Lafayette-class). The nuclear deterrent patrols averaged about 15 weeks in length - their job was to hide in the ocean, avoid detection by the Soviet navy, and wait for the call to launch their nuclear missiles at designated targets.
